The ceasefire between Israel and Iran appeared to be holding on Tuesday after 12 days of intense fighting that killed hundreds of Iranians and dozens of Israelis.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced the "end of the 12-day war" imposed by Israel, in a message to the nation carried by IRNA news agency on Tuesday. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also declared victory on Tuesday in the conflict.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday welcomed the ceasefire and urged Israel and Iran to fully respect the ceasefire.
