CGTN

The second round of Wimbledon women's singles qualifying drew to a close with China's Zhang Shuai asserting her authority in straight sets against the USA's Whitney Osuigwe, booking her place in the final qualifying round.

Zhang's service game was a study in dominance, with her first-serve points won soaring to an impressive 75%, while her second-serve point conversions clocked in at 62%. Osuigwe, on the other hand, lagged well behind with 58% and 44%, respectively, a deficit that proved too costly.

In a brisk 58-minute encounter, Zhang dispatched her opponent 6-2, 6-4, demonstrating both efficiency and control.

Meanwhile, Zhang's compatriot Wang Xiyu's campaign came to a halt as she fell to Cyprus's Georgiana Serban in straight sets, ending her hopes of reaching the final qualifying round.
