When Nannaphat arrived in Kunming from Chiang Mai, Thailand, 26 years ago, she brought with her a taste of home – in the form of a bag of lemongrass. Back then, Thai food was a rarity in the Yunnan provincial capital. Today, by contrast, its spicy and sour flavors are highly popular among the locals. The ingredients are readily available on the markets, and Nannaphat is running six Thai restaurants in the place she calls her second home. With the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand approaching, Nannaphat decided to do something to mark the occasion. And so she invited her colleagues and friends to a "Friendship Long-table Banquet".
