UN Charter is not an a-la-carte menu: Guterres

00:42

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on June 26 called out the selective application of the UN Charter, saying it is not an a-la-carte menu.

"The Charter of the United Nations is not optional. It is not an a-la-carte menu. It is the bedrock of international relations. We cannot and must not normalize violations of its most basic principles," he told a UN General Assembly event marking the 80th anniversary of the signing of the UN Charter.

The UN Charter, the foundational treaty of the world body, was adopted on June 25, 1945, at the San Francisco Conference and was signed by delegates the following day.
