Spain defeated China 21-16 in the quarterfinals at the FIBA Men's 3×3 World Cup in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, on Saturday.
The Spaniards repeatedly charged the paint with great intensity from the start of the game, but Zhang Dianliang drilled an outside shot to stabilize the situation for the Chinese squad. Spain held the lead for most of the contest, but they were not able to build an insurmountable edge in the early stages.
After Wu Xingrui sank two free throws and Guo Hanyu added a two-point jumper, China surged ahead, but not for long as a series of offensive fouls cost the team the advantage. The game was knotted at 16-16 before Spain scored five straight points to seal the deal.
Despite the loss, China bowed out with their best-ever showing at the World Cup after reaching the last eight, with hopes of going further in the future. Spain will face Germany in the semifinals.
