As of 9 a.m. Monday, the number of northbound trips made by single-plated vehicles from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) using the Zhuhai Port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge has exceeded 2.85 million. Single-plated vehicles are those registered only in the Hong Kong SAR.

To facilitate traveling across the border for work and leisure, the "northbound travel for Hong Kong vehicles" scheme was officially launched in July 2023, marking a crucial step towards stronger connectivity and integrated development within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

From July 1, 2023 to June 30 this year, more than 108,000 vehicles and 129,000 drivers have completed the border inspection registration under the policy.

According to the bridge's border inspection station, over 3.27 million passenger vehicles have passed through the port since the beginning of the year — a year-on-year increase of approximately 30 percent. On weekends and holidays, the average daily traffic reaches around 21,000 vehicles.

Hong Kong's single-plated vehicles account for over 40 percent of the total, making them the most common type crossing the port.

Prior to the implementation of the policy, the average daily number of vehicles passing through the port was about 7,000, and the number has reached 18,000 in 2025, an increase of more than 150 percent over the same period in 2023, according to a border inspection station official.
