Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) players celebrate after scoring a goal against Inter Miami in a round of 16 match at the FIFA Club World Cup at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, June 29, 2025. /VCG
Paris Saint-Germain left no doubt they are Europe's top club with a historic victory in the UEFA Champions League.
Now, PSG are intent on conquering the world.
The Parisians turned in a dominating performance at the FIFA Club World Cup on Sunday, brushing aside Lionel Messi and Inter Miami with a first-half blitz, en route to a dominant 4-0 victory.
While a number of European powerhouses complained mightily about having to play in the newly-expanded tournament at the end of a grueling season, PSG are taking the 32-team competition seriously.
Outside of a 1-0 loss to Brazilian club Botafogo in the group stage, the Parisians have won three matches by a cumulative margin of 10-0 since arriving in the United States.
"It's clear that this is a historic season for us. We intend to continue making history with this competition," PSG coach Luis Enrique said through an interpreter. "We're fighting to claim silverware. This season is very long for all the teams. But we're excited to be here."
There was a huge buildup to the game against Messi, who played two seasons at PSG before making the move to South Florida in the twilight of his brilliant career, and was facing his former coach from their days together at Barcelona.
But even with an eight-time Ballon d'Or winner leading the way, the Major League Soccer side was simply no match for a deep, talented squad that routed Inter Milan 5-0 in the Champions League final a month earlier.
Joao Neves scored a pair of goals for the team from the French capital, setting the tone with a header off a free kick just six minutes into the game.
He then doubled their lead in the 39th, and Miami totally fell apart in the closing minutes of the opening half. Tomas Aviles gave up an own-goal on a cross in front of the net, and Achraf Hakimi added to his brilliant campaign by scoring in stoppage time.
PSG advanced to the quarterfinals, where they will face Bayern Munich next Saturday in Atlanta. The German squad defeated Brazil's Flamengo 4-2.

Harry Kane scores twice as Bayern Munich cruise past Flamengo
Harry Kane scored twice and Bayern Munich capitalized on a quick start to beat Flamengo 4-2 in the day's other contest.
The German heavyweights regrouped quickly from their only loss of the tournament in the group stage against Benfica, jumping out to a 2-0 lead and then holding off Flamengo's comeback attempt to advance to the quarterfinals.
Kane's first goal was a deflected strike that made it 2-0 in the ninth minute, and the prolific scorer found the back of the net again in the second half, on a feed from Joshua Kimmich that he whipped past goalkeeper Agustin Rossi.
The Bundesliga champions struck early when Flamengo star Erick Pulgar headed the ball into his own net off Kimmich's corner six minutes into the game.
Flamengo answered when Gerson fired the ball past Manuel Neuer in the 32nd, cutting the deficit to a goal, before Leon Goretzka made it 3-1 at halftime.
The Brazilian side pulled within a goal again in the second half when Jorginho converted a penalty kick. But Kane came up big again, finishing in the 73rd with his third goal of the tournament.
