Since establishing diplomatic relations 75 years ago, China and Switzerland have continued to engage in extensive exchanges and practical cooperation measures within the tourism sector. They have signed tourism designation agreements, opened tourism offices in each other's countries, and launched the China-Switzerland Tourism Year in 2017.
On multiple occasions, including the Eco Forum Global Guiyang, the two countries held dialogues to protect their ecosystems and promote green and low-carbon development. As the "Garden of the World," Switzerland has advanced experience in developing ecotourism and sustainable travel, which offer valuable reference points for the development of Guizhou, a mountainous province in southwest China.
Over the years, Guizhou has been perfecting its legal framework in environmental protection, carrying out rounds of campaigns to return farmland to forests or grasslands, improving local infrastructure, and developing ecotourism. Tapping into its beautiful natural landscape, Guizhou has built up a list of popular ecotourism destinations, including the Guiyang Guanshan Lake Park, the Axilixi Scenic Area and the Maolan Karst Forest.
