East China's Shandong Province is a paradise for food lovers – a culinary journey through the hometown of Confucius is sure to satisfy both the appetite and the soul.
As the leading branch of the Eight Chinese Culinary Traditions, Shandong cuisine, also known as Lu cuisine, is renowned for its rich and savory flavors. It is the only one among the eight that developed independently and organically. As the oldest and most technically sophisticated of the Chinese culinary traditions, it embodies the essence of northern Chinese cuisine.
Shandong also boasts an abundance of seasonal fruits, such as fragrant Yantai apples and sweet Mengyin peaches.
