Tuesday marked the 30-day countdown ahead of the 12th World Games that will take place in Chengdu, southwest China's Sichuan Province, from August 7 and 17.
Instead of a traditional stadium, the organizing committee has decided to hold the opening ceremony in the open area at the Tianfu International Convention Center, to implement the concept of simplicity for the Games.
The construction of the convention center began in June 2020 and the building was put into use in 2021. According to the organizing committee, it was not built specifically for the World Games, but as a part of the city.
"We used an existing building for an opening ceremony in an open area," said opening and closing ceremonies deputy chief director Huang Peiling. "Some of the spectators won't sit inside, but on the grassland outside to watch the ceremony. I think that fits Chengdu's characteristic."
There will be a 15-minute artistic performance at the 90-minute show with rehearsals taking place since June.
