Chinese second seed Wang Manyu cruised past Christina Kallberg in straight games 11-9, 11-8, 11-8 in the women's singles first round at the World Table Tennis (WTT) United States Smash in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Monday.
It was the first match between the two in their careers. Sweden's Kallberg attacked with aggression and did well enough in controlling the landing of her shots. Wang made good use of the opponent's mistakes to come back and claim the first game 11-9.
The second game was close as well and tied 7-7 before Wang won two straight points to stay ahead. Though Kallberg pulled one back, she couldn't stop the Chinese from taking the game 11-8 and increasing the advantage to 2-0.
Wang began the third game trailing, but soon tied it 5-5 before adding another point to take the lead. She kept her momentum and earned the match point at 10-7. Though Kallberg saved the first, Wang sealed the deal 11-8 for the final victory. She will play Lee Eun-hye of South Korea next.
