Carlos Alcaraz celebrates after defeating home favorite Cameron Norrie in the Wimbledon quarterfinals, London, England, July 8, 2025. / VCG
Two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz moved one step closer to a third consecutive Wimbledon title after making easy work of home favorite Cameron Norrie in straight sets to reach the semifinals on Tuesday. The 22-year-old dominated the opener 6-2 and built up a 5-3 lead in the second. Alcaraz was aiming to join Bjorn Borg as the only men in the Open Era to achieve the Roland Garros-Wimbledon double in consecutive years. The Spaniard also leads the ATP Tour for the season with five titles highlighted so far by that second French Open. His British opponent is yet to achieve such success.
Norrie has struggled to get to his best level so far this year. But he is just the fourth British man in the Open Era to play in the quarterfinals at Wimbledon on multiple occasions. At times he showed glimpses of what he can do, but the world number two inevitably closed out the contest 6-3 with an ace. Alcaraz became just the second active man to advance to three or more Wimbledon semifinals and extended his winning streak to a career-best 23 matches. The Spaniard also became the first player to qualify for this year's ATP Finals and will face Taylor Fritz for a place in the final.
"Yes I'm just really happy. To be able to play another semi-final here in Wimbledon is super special. It's something that I wanted to do at the beginning of the week, just try to go as far as I can and give myself a chance to play a semi-final here, it's going to be great. So I'm just really happy with the level that I played at today against a really difficult player like Cam, he's an amazing player, he's an amazing guy as well. I'm pretty sure that there's nobody who work harder than him and I'm just really happy to see him fighting for great things. So just happy to see him play these kind of matches and happy to qualify for the semi-final." said Alcaraz.
