Joao Pedro (2-L) of Chelsea celebrates after scoring his debut goal during the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 match between Fluminense FC and Chelsea FC in East Rutherford, New Jersey, USA, 8 July 2025. /VCG
Chelsea's Joao Pedro marked his first start in spectacular fashion by scoring twice to fire the Premier League side into the final with a 2-0 victory over his boyhood club, Fluminense in New Jersey.
The 23-year-old forward, signed from Brighton for 60 million pounds last week, opened the scoring in the 18th minute when he curled in a fabulous strike from outside the box. Pedro started his career at Fluminense and showed his respect to the Brazilian side after the goal. Eight minutes later, Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella produced a goal line clearance following a clever piece of play by Jhon Arias. The English side held a 1-0 lead at the break.
11 minutes after the re-start, Pedro claimed his second with another brilliant finish. After reaching an Enzo Fernandez ball, he went into the box and fired in a ferocious strike that caught the underside of the crossbar on its way into Fabio's goal. 2-0 was how it ended. Chelsea will face Real Madrid or PSG in Sunday's final.
