War provocations by "Taiwan independence" armed forces are futile and will only lead to self-destruction, said a Chinese defense spokesperson on Monday.
Jiang Bin, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, made the remarks in response to a media query concerning Taiwan's first HIMARS company.
To solicit U.S. support for "Taiwan independence," the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities are selling Taiwan's interests to flatter the United States, thereby squandering the hard-earned money of the people of Taiwan to pay protection fees, the spokesperson said.
"Buying U.S. weapons to embolden themselves is useless and self-deceiving, and resisting reunification by force is a dead end," Jiang said.
In response to another query about the mainland's newly activated W121 connection line of the M503 flight route, Jiang said this is a routine measure taken by relevant authorities based on the needs of civil aviation development and management, and it will benefit people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits.
However, the DPP authorities have used this to hype up the so-called "mainland military threat" in an attempt to provoke security anxiety, heighten confrontation, and obstruct cross-Straits exchanges, which goes against public sentiment and is doomed to fail, Jiang said.
The root cause of the current tension in cross-Straits relations lies in the DPP authorities' collusion with external forces in their provocative attempts to seek "independence," the spokesperson added.
"We hope that the people of Taiwan will see through the DPP authorities' true separatist agenda, recognize the grave dangers of 'Taiwan independence' separatism, firmly oppose separatist acts, and jointly safeguard peace and stability across the Straits," Jiang said.
