Changchun was once the "capital" of "Manchukuo", a puppet state established under Japanese occupation (1932-1945)-serving as a central hub of the colonial machinery. Today, the city has left that history behind. It now plays a leading role in revitalizing northeast China, renowned for its green and smart manufacturing, and serves as an important hub for China's opening to the world.
