Starting off as Joshua, this one time American student of Chinese at Peking University is now a denizen of Beijing’s hutongs known as "Lao Tan". A fluent Mandarin-speaker with a perfect Beijing accent, Lao Tan was inspired to initiate the “Krankin’ thru China” campiagn in 2017, thanks to his friendships with people with disabilities caused by spinal injuries. Crucial to his scheme was the idea of building bridges to the wider world through handcycles. Whether it’s establishing experience centers or completing a now legendary 5,800-kilometer journey, Lao Tan is living proof of the difference that a true "China hand" can make!
