The wetland ecosystem of the Changjiang Haiwei National Wetland Park is notable for its distinctiveness and diversity. Encompassing vast areas of wetlands, grasslands, mudflats, and mangrove conservation zones, the park is one of the few coastal freshwater marsh wetlands in south China's Hainan Province, and a key habitat for migratory birds on the tropical island.

To date, 212 bird species have been recorded in the wetland park, including three that are under first-class national protection and 39 that are under second-class national protection. The park's management authority continues to conduct biodiversity monitoring and regularly discovers new species through daily patrols and ecological surveys.
