Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday met with Nurlan Yermekbayev, secretary-general of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), in north China's Tianjin.

Hailing the SCO's important role in maintaining regional peace and stability, and promoting development and revitalization, Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said it has made contributions to building a new type of international relations and a community with a shared future for mankind.

He expressed belief that under the leadership of the secretary-general, the SCO Secretariat will play a greater role in ensuring the efficient operation of the SCO and in enhancing its influence.

Since taking over the rotating presidency of the SCO, China has held more than 90 events and promoted a series of cooperation, said Wang, expressing his hope that the secretary-general will continue to support the work of the Chinese presidency, and cooperate with China for a friendly, united and fruitful summit.

Yermekbayev hailed China efforts since assuming the rotating presidency of the SCO, saying that it has brought the cooperation among all parties to a new level.

The Secretariat will continue to fully support the work of the Chinese presidency and jointly prepare for the Tianjin summit to ensure fruitful outcomes, he said.
