Beijing booms as visa-free travel fuels foreign tourism surge

This summer, Beijing's Temple of Heaven was bustling with foreign visitors, reflecting the growing popularity of "China Travel" among international tourists. As China expands its visa-free policy, inbound tourism continues to increase.

According to data released by the National Immigration Administration on July 16, a total of 13.64 million foreigners entered China visa-free in the first half of 2025, accounting for 71.2% of all foreign entries, which marks a 53.9% year-on-year increase.

Currently, China offers unilateral visa-free entry to 47 countries and transit visa exemptions to 55. Travelers from countries including Indonesia, Russia, and the United Kingdom can enter China without a visa via 60 designated ports across the country, provided they have a valid international travel document and an onward ticket. Visitors can stay for up to 10 days for tourism, business, or family visits.

This surge in tourism is also fostering cultural exchanges and generating greater interest in China's diverse travel experiences.
