China's transport network surges under 14th Five-Year Plan

00:40

China now has the world's largest high-speed railway, highway and postal networks.

China's operational railway mileage has reached 162,000 kilometers, as of the end of 2024, including an increase of 10,000 kilometers of high-speed rail.

In the past year, an average of 180 million people traveled across regions daily, 160 million tonnes of goods were transported, and 478 million express parcels were collected daily.

These are some of the numbers Liu Wei, China's minister of transport, cited on Monday during a press briefing in Beijing as he summarized how the transport sector had performed so far during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025). He said the sector has seen "historic growth" during the period.
