Researcher Wu Minchao from the Institute of Modern History at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences discusses China's immense contribution to the allied victory in World War Two. Fighting on the main battlefield on the Eastern Front, Chinese soldiers and civilians pinned down the bulk of the Japanese military for 14 years. By doing so, they not only thwarted Japan's strategic ambitions to advance north against the Soviet Union and delayed its southward push into Southeast Asia, but also bought precious time for the Allies to prepare their counteroffensive. After the war, as a founding member of the United Nations and a permanent member of the Security Council, China actively participated in shaping the international order, making an enduring contribution to global peace and development. History testifies to China's pivotal role in World War Two and its steadfast commitment to multilateralism and international cooperation.
