A number of political and civil organizations in China's Taiwan region on Sunday voiced strong opposition to what they described as a politically-motivated "mass recall" vote initiated by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities to attempt to remove some opposition members from the island's legislature, calling instead for safeguarding peace, democracy and social stability on the island.

Local youth representatives believed that the DPP abused recall mechanisms to suppress dissenting voices and consolidate political control while delivering public speeches at a street event held in Taoyuan.

They urged voters to cast a "disagree" ballot in the upcoming vote scheduled for July 26.

Speakers warned that under the label of "whole-of-society defense resilience," the DPP authorities are in fact putting the public's safety and livelihoods at risk.

They expressed strong opposition to the DPP authorities' growing hostility and confrontational stance toward the mainland, warning that such actions only bring the threat of war closer to the lives of ordinary people.

"We refuse to sacrifice ourselves for the political ambitions of so-called 'Taiwan independence' elites," several youth speakers said, calling on the public to uphold peace, stability and democratic values.

Local residents from all walks of life took part in the event. A road maintenance worker struck a chord with the crowd by performing a song expressing his longing for a peaceful and secure life.

Organizers of the event stressed that recalls, when misused, become political tools rather than democratic instruments. They urged voters to reject political manipulation and the separatist agenda promoted by the DPP, emphasizing that true peace and democracy can only be upheld by opposing malicious recalls and rejecting "Taiwan independence."
