European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen arrived in Beijing early on Thursday for the 25th China-EU Summit.

President Xi Jinping will have a meeting with the EU leaders, and Premier Li Qiang and the pair will jointly chair the high-level summit.

The summit coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the European Union.

Guo Jiakun, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, said on Tuesday that China-EU relations are "at a critical juncture," building on past achievements and opening a new chapter, and are confronted with both new opportunities and challenges.

The summit will help enhance bilateral strategic communication and deepen dialogue and cooperation, which will serve the interests of both sides and the world at large, said Guo at a regular press briefing.
