Two-state solution only viable solution to Palestine question: spokesperson

A spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Friday that the only viable way to resolve the Palestinian question lies in the two-state solution.

Spokesperson Guo Jiakun made the remarks when asked to comment on reports that French President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday that France will formally recognize the Palestinian state during a United Nations meeting in September.

China supports the upcoming UN high-level conference on the implementation of the two-state solution, said Guo.

China will continue working with the other member states to end the Gaza conflict, ease the humanitarian crisis, implement the two-state solution and realize the full, just and lasting settlement of the Palestinian question, he added.

The spokesperson also expressed hope that relevant parties will reach a ceasefire in Gaza and de-escalate the situation as soon as possible and effectively alleviate the humanitarian crisis.
