Hepatitis B is an infection of the liver caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV). It can lead to liver cancer and is a significant global health concern. According to the World Health Organization, there were 254 million people living with chronic hepatitis B infection in 2022, with 1.2 million new infections each year.
