Buyunchaokete defeated Vit Kopriva 7-6(4), 6-2 in the men's singles first round at the Canadian Open in Toronto on Monday, securing the first win of his career at the tournament.

The two exchanged breaks in the first two games of the first set. The competition remained close and entered a tiebreak. The 23-year-old Chinese made no mistake and claimed it 7-4 to lead 1-0 in the match.

Buyunchaokete continued to attack sharply in the second and had two breaks in sealing the deal 6-2. He will play No. 28 seed Lorenzo Sonego of Italy in the next round.

Having played a total of 20 tiebreaks so far this season and lost 16 of them, Buyunchaokete kept a good mindset over situations like this. He revealed that Chinese veteran Zhang Shuai's coach Liu Shuo once told him that losing a tiebreak is best way to lose.

"It's a way of picking out the problems," Bu said. "You try everything possible and then the best result is left with you. These words has given me strength."
