Shih Tse-an moved from Taiwan to Chengdu at the age of 9. Over the past 20 years, he has picked up the Sichuan dialect, embraced spicy hotpot and built a fulfilling career as an orthodontist.

"I don't think too far ahead. I just want to take steady steps – and let the future take care of itself," he says. From embracing the culture to building a career, his journey reflects how young people from Taiwan are finding opportunity and belonging on the Chinese mainland.
