A Chinese expert said China believes the greatest human rights is the people's right to a happy life, an understanding that differs from countries where civil liberties are considered most important. Xiao Wu, an expert on Xizang studies from Southwest University of Political Science and Law, shared insights into the region's human rights progress at a press salon held Tuesday in Beijing by the All-China Journalists Association, as this year marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Xizang Autonomous Region. The professor highlighted notable advances in human rights in Xizang over the past six decades, including lifting more than 600,000 people out of extreme poverty, providing 15 years of free education, and increasing life expectancy from 35 to 72 years. Diplomats from about ten countries, including the UK, Germany, Japan, and the Netherlands, also attended the event.
