U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Tuesday that the U.S. had a "fulsome two days" of talks on economy and trade with the Chinese delegation in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden.
"It was our third meeting. I am happy to say that London built on Geneva, Stockholm built on London and Geneva," Bessent told media during a press briefing following the meeting of the China-U.S. economic and trade consultation mechanism, adding that he thinks the U.S. side had "great momentum" heading into the talks.
Responding to a question from a reporter, Bessent further said that "rather than the talks getting more difficult, I actually think that they are getting more engaged."
He said the two sides have conducted a wide range of discussions, adding that the "talks went to a wider aperture," and they have developed great respect and mutual cooperation.
"We don't want to decouple," he said.
