An Earth observing satellite, jointly developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the U.S. space agency National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota in southern India on Wednesday.
The launch of the satellite named "NISAR" was carried by the launch vehicle GSLV-F16.
"It is an L- and S-band, global, microwave imaging mission, with the capability to acquire fully polarimetric and interferometric data," said an official statement.
It added that the unique dual-band Synthetic Aperture Radar of NISAR employed advanced, novel SweepSAR technique, which provided high resolution and large swath imagery.
