South China's Guangdong Province is experiencing a spike in Chikungunya infections – with most cases concentrated in Foshan. As of July 29, the city has reported over 6,000 cases, all classified as mild. The mosquito-borne virus, now found in 119 countries, triggers fever, rashes and severe joint pain, earning it the nickname "bent-back virus." To stop the spread, Guangdong has launched a province-wide campaign: drones scan rooftops, fogging teams disinfect streets, and hospitals combine Western and traditional Chinese medicine to manage symptoms. Their message: prevention remains the strongest defense.
