In Anji, Zhejiang, bamboo isn't just part of the landscape – it's woven into daily life. Bamboo weaving is a recognized form of intangible cultural heritage here, passed down through generations. The process includes seven steps: sawing, splitting, slicing, refining, sizing, smoothing and finally, weaving. Each step is done by hand, requiring both patience and precision. With each strip carefully placed, the artisan transforms raw bamboo into baskets, mats and beautiful everyday objects. It's a quiet craft – but one that speaks of tradition, nature and the art of making with care.
