From July 28 to 29, Chinese and U.S. economic and trade delegations held talks in Stockholm, Sweden. The two sides engaged in candid, in-depth and constructive exchanges on China-U.S. economic and trade relations, macroeconomic policies and other issues of mutual concern.
On this occasion, a CGTN stringer in New York spoke with young Americans about the topics they care about most and their hopes for future cooperation between China and the U.S.
In their view, the China-U.S. relationship is both complicated and challenging – marked by a need for cooperation but also ongoing differences. Leia Marquiegui, a 21-year-old student, believes the two countries should strengthen cooperation in technology and lift restrictions, as technology plays a major role in young people's lives – from social media to AI and gaming. Max Gallaguer, 23, sees fair trade as even more crucial, given its impact on jobs, manufacturing and inflation.
Both agree that China and the U.S. must enhance communication, negotiate on equal footing and replace confrontation with dialogue to build a more peaceful and rational future.
