Zhu Lin of China beat Suzan Lamens of the Netherlands 6-2, 6-2 in the women's singles third round at the Canadian Open in Montreal on Thursday, advancing to the last 16 at a Women's Tennis Association (WTA) 1000 tournament for the first time in her career.

Both players held their first two service games to leave the first set knotted at 2-2. Zhu then seized control of the match by clinching four straight games to wrap up the opener. She outplayed her Dutch opponent throughout most of their rallies while showcasing speed, mobility, and crafty shots from the baseline.

The 31-year-old was also seen continuing to do her "homework" during the break, reading through a notebook to confirm her scouting reports on Lamens.

The World No. 61 failed to find a better way to respond to Zhu's attacks in the second set. After holding serve on her first attempt, the 26-year-old only converted one of her next three service games.

Zhu went on to close out the set 6-2, completing the sweep with relative ease. She will face World No. 50 Jessica Bouzas Maneiro of Spain in the round of 16.
