This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. CGTN Radio reporter Dou Hongyu talks about an interview she had with the family of Zhu Fuxing, a veteran of the Battle of Shanghai in Media Chats program.

Zhu Fuxing's son, Zhu Weiji, recalls how during the 1937 Battle of Shanghai, General Zhu Fuxing led his troops in battle. Despite two-thirds of his soldiers faced with casualties, he held the line. Zhu Fuxing fought relentlessly for seven days and nights without rest until he was shot and lost consciousness, later being sent to Hangzhou for treatment. He was hit by three bullets, one of which was only one centimeter away from his heart and was never removed, remaining with him for the rest of his life.

The Battle of Shanghai lasted for three months, slowing down the Japanese offensive and disrupting their plan to "occupy China in three months." This bloody battle not only strengthened the will of the Chinese people to resist, but also made the U.S., Soviet Union, and other allies realize the strategic importance of the Eastern Front in the world's Anti-Fascist War.
