In a recent episode of the Media Chats show, Wes Cabangon, a reporter from Business Mirror in the Philippines, reflected on the wartime solidarity between Chinese and Filipino fighters during World War II. He shared the inspiring story of how the local Chinese-Filipino community organized the Wha-Chi Guerrilla Force to fight against the Japanese occupation of the Philippines.

Starting with only seven rifles, the Wha-Chi guerrillas grew to 700 strong and liberated several towns from Japanese control. He notes that although direct wartime coordination between China and the Philippines was limited by geography, the shared belief in fighting for freedom united both peoples in their resistance. This historical bond should serve as an inspiration for deeper cooperation between China and the Philippines today.
