On December 12, 1937, the Japanese 6th Division broke through the defense line at the Zhonghua Gate in Nanjing. Tanks advanced towards the city gate, where the inscribed slogan "Vow to avenge the country's grievances" is still clearly visible.

After more than 80 years, the gate stands today adorned with golden ginkgo trees, embodying the coexistence of scars and renewal – a solemn reminder of war in this era of peace.
