Weng Ming, an animation director, finds a profound connection to a line from the novel "The Street Guitar Band" by Tian Xia Ba Chang (the pen name of Chinese novelist Zhang Muye): "Before those monumental eras begin, people often have no idea what's coming."
This sentiment echoes Weng Ming's own journey. He and his peers came of age during China's period of reform and opening-up, stepping into adulthood with both fear and hope for the future. What seemed like wandering in the moment was in fact the start of something extraordinary.
Looking back, Weng Ming offers a gentle reminder to today's young creators. Every pioneering era began with unremarkable yet courageous first steps into the unknown.
