CGTN Sports Scene explores innovative coverage of 2025 Chengdu World Games

The 2025 Chengdu World Games will officially get underway on Thursday night, with the host broadcaster ready to provide innovative coverage of the program. International Sports Broadcasting (ISB) Chief Executive Officer Ursula Romero sat down with CGTN Sports Scene's Mike Fox to preview some of the plans.

Romero noted that one of the key aspects of her job is making sure that sports are shown properly. She pointed out that events which are not very well-known, such as tug of war and life-saving, actually provide broadcasters with more freedom in their coverage.

Most sports at the World Games are non-Olympic events, but several competitions on the schedule will be included at the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympics, such as baseball, softball, lacrosse, squash, and flag football. Romero admits that broadcasters should be mindful that those sports may require more attention, while also striving to treat all events equally.

The ISB leader further revealed that she has visited Chengdu 10 times over the past two years, and is impressed by the host city's deep sporting culture, as well as its capability to stage world-class events. Romero added that she hopes Chengdu can put on more major international sports competitions in the future.
