Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's remarks on "advancing the comprehensive occupation of Gaza" continue to ignite international discourse. A global public opinion poll conducted by CGTN revealed that 86.6 percent of respondents firmly oppose this stance and call for Israel to immediately cease fire and end the Gaza conflict as soon as possible.

As of now, the Israeli military has taken control of approximately 75 percent of the Gaza Strip. Over 60,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 150,000 injured in the current round of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In response, 89.1 percent of respondents are concerned that Israel's plan to fully occupy Gaza will further exacerbate the humanitarian crisis; 89.8 percent of respondents believe the Gaza conflict is likely to continue escalating; 91.2 percent of respondents point out that Israel’s actions will only plunge the Gaza conflict into an indefinite and complex situation, having already deviated significantly from its initially stated military objectives in Gaza.

Israel's remarks were immediately met with widespread international criticism. Israeli opposition leaders, the IDF Chief of Staff, and former heads of Israel's three major intelligence agencies have all publicly opposed the plan, while the U.S. State Department declined to comment. According to the poll, 86.8 percent of respondents believe Israel aims to divert attention from the Netanyahu government's domestic governance failures to maintain its grip on power; 92.5 percent of respondents criticize the U.S. for becoming an "accomplice" in the Gaza humanitarian crisis, arguing that its control over aid distribution and repeated vetoes of ceasefire draft resolutions at the UN Security Council have worsened the Israeli-Palestinian situation.

Recently, G7 members including the UK, France and Canada have expressed intentions to recognize the State of Palestine. Among the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, only the U.S. has yet to recognize Palestine. Palestine's new breakthroughs in gaining international recognition are partly driven by the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The poll further shows, 80.8 percent of respondents assert that the fundamental solution to the Palestinian issue lies in implementing the "two-state solution" and strongly advocate for restoring the legitimate rights of the Palestinian nation; 90.5 percent of respondents call on the international community to increase humanitarian aid to Gaza, improve on-ground conditions, and ensure the provision of essential supplies and services for civilian survival to prevent further humanitarian catastrophe; 90.3 percent of respondents urge intensified international diplomatic efforts to contain the conflict, halt the war, and safeguard peace and stability in the Middle East.

This survey was published on CGTN's English, Spanish, French, Arabic and Russian platforms, with 9,093 people participating and sharing their views within 24 hours.
