Tibetan scholar gives UN testimony on education, faith and culture in Xizang

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Xizang Autonomous Region. Over the decades, Xizang has seen remarkable progress and the rise of countless young Tibetans. 

At the 58th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, Sonam Drolma, a scholar from the China Tibetology Research Center, shared her experience of studying at a boarding school in a Tibetan-inhabited area of Sichuan Province, countering some Western false accusations and highlighting Xizang's advances in education and cultural preservation.

In an interview with CGTN, she said, "Boarding schools are, in my opinion, very well managed. I am a living example of that." She noted that many international guests and UN experts have praised Xizang's achievements. "Some Western groups criticize us, yes, but we must stay focused and respond through academic work," she added. "I study Tibetan Buddhism and focus on boarding schools and cultural preservation. I've been working on this and will continue to, hoping to share Xizang's story with the world."
