A century-old castle reborn in Moganshan's summer retreat

Moganshan in Deqing County, Huzhou City, east China's Zhejiang Province, is celebrated as one of China's "Four Famous Summer Retreats." At its foot lies Lanshukeng Village, once nicknamed "Rotten Tree Pit" due to poverty. Today, thanks to a thriving homestay industry, the village has transformed into a sought-after getaway.

Naked Castle is a symbol of that change. This British-style villa, built in 1910, was restored over four years starting in 2013. The renovation preserved its original structure and gardens while introducing eco-friendly technology. Now, it offers more than accommodation: museum tours, craft workshops, wedding services, and even a cliffside pool. From a forgotten village to a popular travel destination, this is rural revitalization in action.
