Campus Engineering: China tackles building collapse risks with advanced weather simulator

00:58

The structural failure of a roof can occur due to an overload of snow. China's Harbin Institute of Technology has developed the world's first Simulator of Natural Action of Wind-Rain-Heat-Snow for Space Structure, providing a solution to this technical problem.

This system addresses the simulation of continuous snow accumulation dynamics on roofs under multi-factor conditions of wind, rain, heat and snow. It accurately reproduces the cyclic process of snow accumulation-drift-melt-crystallization-reaccumulation, thereby obtaining the most authentic research data on snow loads for large-span roofs.
