During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the military and civilians in the anti-Japanese base areas behind enemy lines, led by the Communist Party of China, showed remarkable resilience and initiative. In the winter of 1939, within the Jin-Cha-Ji Base Area, an ambush led by the Eighth Route Army successfully killed Lieutenant General Norihide Abe, a Japanese military officer known as the "Flower of Generals."
