Lake protection is a challenge around the world. Stagnant waters make lakes especially vulnerable to environmental crises such as algae blooms, a threat worsening with climate change. China, home to over 20,000 lakes, has faced the same challenge but has made significant progress in the last decade through a national campaign that prioritizes ecology in development.
In this episode of Discovering Green China, CGTN's Chen Mengfei travels to Yunnan's Erhai Lake to explore the science, engineering, and community cooperation behind its revival and the ongoing effort to keep its waters clean. The series marks the 20th anniversary of the "two mountains" concept that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets, which is now a guiding principle in China's pursuit of both environmental protection and economic growth.
