Five Al Jazeera journalists were killed on August 10 as Israel targeted a journalists' tent in the Gaza Strip. Anas Al-Sharif, a 28-year-old correspondent, was among those killed. Israel claimed it had targeted Al-Sharif because he allegedly worked for Hamas.
CGTN Stringer in Gaza captured poignant scenes of mourners grieving for Al-Sharif. His nephew, Mahmoud Shalha, described him not just as a journalist but as a "father" who raised him and inspired his own career in journalism. He vowed to continue filming in Al-Sharif's footsteps, even if it cost him his life. Other mourners said that Israel targeted Al-Sharif for his commitment to documenting their actions, asserting that his only "crime" was being a journalist committed to the truth.
