On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War, Vince Cable, former UK secretary of state for business, stated that what happened in Asia during World War II has been forgotten in Europe. In particular, Japan's invasion of China was an important factor affecting the outcome of the war. He stressed that China's prolonged resistance, despite enormous sacrifices, tied down Japanese forces and created conditions for the eventual Allied victory, especially for the United States. Yet, he added, China's contributions in World War II have long been underrecognized in the West and deserve renewed attention.
