China hopes Cambodia and Thailand will strengthen contacts and exchanges, as well as restore friendship and mutual trust, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday during his meeting with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn in Anning, southwest China's Yunnan Province.
Wang said that Cambodia and Thailand are both good neighbors and close friends of China, adding that China believes the parties involved can effectively resolve their differences through dialogue and consultation, and supports ASEAN in playing a constructive role to maintain its unity.
Today's world is characterized by interconnected change and turbulence, making peace and stability even more crucial, said Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.
He said that holding the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Anning to discuss development plans, voice the call for peace, and build consensus on tranquility is very important.
China praises Cambodia's efforts to crack down on online gambling and telecom fraud, and hopes Cambodia will continue to take strong actions to collaborate with other regional countries in fighting cross-border crimes, according to Wang.
Sokhonn said Cambodia and China are an all-weather community with a shared future, maintaining close high-level exchanges.
Cambodia highly values its relationship with China, appreciates China's generous support and aid, and looks forward to deepening cooperation and achieving more results, Sokhonn added.
He said China plays a constructive role in international and regional affairs and is a symbol of peace and development.
Noting that the Belt and Road Initiative and the three major global initiatives have achieved remarkable results, Sokhonn said Anning symbolizes peace and tranquility, and Cambodia is ready to fully support and participate in it. He expressed hope that this meeting will help accelerate Lancang-Mekong cooperation and promote regional prosperity and stability.
Sokhonn also provided an update on recent developments in Cambodia-Thailand relations and expressed gratitude to China for actively encouraging peace and dialogue to help ease tensions.
