On August 12, 2025, China and the United States extended the suspension of additional bilateral tariffs on certain goods. Peter Bowes, a BBC North America correspondent, noted that with the year-end holiday season approaching, U.S. retailers had been concerned about the impact of tariffs and had no choice but to pass the extra costs onto consumers. Bowes added that the three-month extension of the tariff suspension would allow a steady flow of Chinese goods into the U.S. market, a welcome relief for retailers preparing for the holiday shopping rush.
