A new awards ceremony anthem has taken center stage at the 2025 World Games in Chengdu. Its composer Luo Wei told CGTN that mixing Sichuan folk motifs with global rhythms fully projects the host city's ambitions for a cosmopolitan awards ceremony. CGTN is now releasing a full-length version exclusively online.
The four-minute fanfare "Light of Chengdu" (《光·蓉》) layers the well-known local melody "The Sun Comes Out Delightfully Bright" over a full orchestra and a children's choir. Traditional Chinese instruments, including the pipa, bamboo flute, guzheng and konghou, carry the folk tune before brass and strings swell to a finale that merges regional color with Western symphonic form. The piece will be played whenever medals are presented during the 11-day multi-sport event.
Luo Wei's work also includes "Ode to Peace," which was performed by the UN Symphony Orchestra, signifying "friendship and peace to the world through artistic exchanges that transcend geographical and cultural boundaries."
